The first part is the paragraph cut from the chatterbox thread, the second is what I also typed on my phone from the other night. Awesomeness ensues.
-------------
I would like every active member to make a character (or characters). this includes a detailed background, physical description and any... oddities. Y'know, sorcerous powers, G.I. issue cybernetics, "the chosen one", tortured soul, all that jazz. Pretty much like making any other character. Now as for the setting... magga carama! I'm gonna finish this in another thread, so hat t can be viewed and commented on there. I'd move this part there, but I can only do so much on my phone. Sorry! ------------
Ok, so here it is! This is where I'm starting my MK story idea. If you've ever played the Mortal Kombat games then you basically know that setting. If you want a more detailed explanation I'll have to do it later (I'm doing this much from my phone, awesome achievement for me!). However, there are some differences. First off, it's going to be a little farther in the future. The next "generation", if you will. Now, there aren't gonna be floating cars, but it'll be just far enough that the original iPods would be viewed in a similar manner as 8-tracks are now. That being said, if you're character has access to it, technology can be a great boon in combat.
Also, magic is viewed much as it is today. It's imaginary, stories, fake, special effects, it doesn't exist... Right up until that crazy guy who likes to believe he's a sorceror throws a ball of fire in your face or that guy at the convention dressed like a ninja freezes your nards off. The fact is that magic does exist. It's just that the people that can use it don't necissarily advertise it... Or they do and just kill the witnesses.
I'll have to explain more later, but I'd like to know if y'all are interested.

Alright, so you can make all kinds of characters for this story. Here are some that I need:
- A pure hero or a hero on a personal quest (doesn't care about money, just there to rescue little sister or some such)
- A bruiser (soldier, ex-gang member, current gang member, law enforcement, street fighter)
- A god or godling (pick an element or some such, earth, fire, shadow, metal, machines. Don't just think outside the box on this one, think outside the building in which the box was opened)
- An assassin (ninja, hitman, special forces)
- A noble (prince/princess, heir to a large corporation)
Now, you can also mix and match these if you want, I don't mind because that's half the fun. Or you can come up with your own, these are more like guidelines. Also, the only real restriction on it would be that, while you don't have to be human, you do have to be humanoid. Tails are fine, but no tentacles or masses of jelly. You can create your own creature, or use a history already partly used in the story. If you need more information you can ask me or check out mortalkombatonline.com, although I think I know more than the site does... Totally not being arrogant or prideful there.

K, I have a character I created awhile ago and haven't done anything with- but might work.
So, her name is Ana and she would be your heir to the company character, only she didn't grow up with that destiny in mind. Her parents were not abusive or constantly fighting eath other- their problems started before they met.
Lasair, her dad, had a younger sister named Eileen. She had been very sick as a child and he worried about her constantly. Even so, she married a professor she met while studying abroad her freshman year and moved in with him despite the fact that her family did not like the him, Travis, because he was six years older and did not come from a wealthy background as they did.
Soon after, Lasair met Treasa while in County Laoise, and married her. Treasa was the youngest in her family. They had Ana about a month before Lasair's sister and her husband, Travis, had their baby girl, Jill. Two years later, they had a son and named him Jack (yes, because of the nursery rhyme). Lasair, Treasa, and Ana had moved to be closer to Eileen as she was in and out of the hospital. Three years later, Eileen died. Lasair blamed Travis for taking his young sister and said her marriage to him had killed her so early. Though a few short years later, Treasa walked off a bridge. She had been taking Ana to school, stepped up on the rail of the bridge and almost pulled her daughter in with her- but Ana grabbed the railing and pulled free.
Lasair stopped caring about anything after all the deaths. He moved into a low-budget appartment with his little girl and drank the years away. Ana had a happy enough life as she spent most of her time with her cousins and easily made many friends.
She made her own lunch, washed her clothes, cleaned the appartment and when she got older it became her part-time job to drag her father home from the bars and ocasionaly this involved making those who felt he owed them money back off. She took classes in martial arts the moment she could since her dad had been beat up a few times while out poisoning himself and she was tired of feeling powerless. She trained night and day. When one class was over she headed into the next, up until all the dojos were closed and even the night-classes in delf defense and Akido were sending people home.
When she was in high school her father managed to sober up somehow- it helped that Travis punched him in the face and told him his daughter was growing up alone while her drunk of a dad slept all day and caused her problems. Lasair's struggle to beat alcoholism made him a hero in his daughter's eyes as she saw how hard he struggled to beat his addiction.
She was in her sophmore year of high school when her dad died in a car accident with a drunk driver. Her grandparents took custody of her, though she asked to be allowed to live on her own so she could stay in school with her cousins and friends. Her grandparents owned a multi-billion dollar company with locatons all over the world and they easily set her up in a luxury appartment and though they insisted on sending her to a private school, she still saw her friends and cousins all the time.
The company Ana will inherit is called NoarShi Industries and manufacturs everything from toys that almost seem to have AI, to medical equipment such as prostetic and robotic limbs. Currently, Ana is in college with her cousins, has three platinum credit cards and is the president of NoarShi industries offices in four different countries- the rest are still run by her grandparents.
Characteristics: She is protective and intelligent. She doesn't act like a spoiled rich girl since she grew up wishing she had more money and dreaming about what she'd do with it, and in the meantime she had to learn what to do with the money she had that needed to last longer than it could. She has body guards, but that's just for appearances since she far exceeds their skills in combat.

That... is pretty cool. Do you have a good physical description? Also the name of the martial art she is most proficient in. Or how many different styles she knows and how good she is at stringing them together.

Physical Description: Dark brown, almost black hair that is wavy and long enough to reach her waist. Dark Blue eyes, pale skin. About 5'7. Toned build. She knows Akido, GungFu, Judo and combines them decently well since people you fight on the street fight dirty.

Mkay, now special or "signature" moves? Tech based or magic. Or just awesome moves that nobody else can pull off.

Don't think to hard. I mean, it doesn't have to be anything real obvious. You said the company makes top of the line prosthetics, right? Well, if they have the funding for that, maybe they have something to help prevent accidents as well, tools that, while created for mundane uses, also have other purposes for which they can be used. Also, don't count out weapons. Shock batons can be fun, and are (generally) legal.
Also... how would your character react to a strange man claiming that he's a sorceror broken free of his otherworldly enslavement and is now on a journey to find something or someone to help him understand this strange world?... just curious...

Ooo, I like where you're going. The company uses metals and plastic surfaces with the same microscopic texture as shark skin (germs don't stick and can't reproduce on it to they can preform surgery anywhere without a high risk of contamination). So they'd have to have studied sharks... and while I'd love to have a character who uses a shark or shark robot, that might not be the way to go ;-)
Seeing-eye shark for blind scubadivers, surfers, naval officers, and so on... Err... back to reality... kinda.
To the sorcerer she would probably establish a 'no-touching' rule and introduce him to her cousins to see what they thought of the craziness. ... or punch him in the nose.

Awesome! As for the sharkskin... depending on how strong the metal or plastic is it could be made into the next generation of body armor as well. Depending on how advanced the posthetics are there could be some heavy robotics involved. Also, if the "shark skin" idea was Ana's idea, maybe she has some sort of spiritual connection with sharks. That could open up a pathway for some mystical moves if you want to do that. There's also tazers and other non leathal weapons.

She has a dosconnection with fear, so she doesn't mind swimming with sharks since they don't sense any fear in her and that makes predators cautious. I'd think for a move it would be something like a counter. She'll move so the opponent's attack hits her but isn't lethal, then maybe she's got a glove that has a current in the palm, give it a few seconds to charge while the opponent is attacking and BZZZTTT! KO. Armor usign electricity would also be effective in making muscles move faster- since the electrical current is already there and doesn't need to transfer through your nerves, to your brain, and back again.

Oh, and by the by, can you put it up in a profile page so it can be read all at once, in case other peeps need inspiration? The guy I'm making is on the other side of the scale tech/magic wise, so he kind of provides a polar opposite, and some other ideas. Also, feel free to make another character. Even if they don't all get used, it's nice to have them.
