Jack shook his head and pushed the hostage into the elevator as it arrived- thankfully empty.
"No sound on these cameras right now, and they don't have them in the rooms. I think we'll be okay for a little bit." The last thing they wanted was the police to show up and be faced with 'It's fine, we're trying to protect a magic book, and these government-sanctioned employees got in the way.' He looked at his hostage and smiled while patting him sharply on the back to inspire a more awake attitude.
"So, where do you get your orders from?" he asked as the elevator began moving to the first floor. He didn't want the man to be unconscious when they reached the lobby.

The hostage's eyes widen, though 'I can't tell you, I'll be killed,' seemed redundant at that point. They'd cut the security feed anyway, so he didn't have to be too concerned and- holy crap he was already answering?! "It's an office building on Central. Under the guise of the Rexxam Law Office." The answer contained more grains of truth than he would have liked, but he didn't have the energy to recover from it.
Aya glared at him. "How find my hotel?"
Fully realizing that being an uncooperative hostage would turn him into a dead hostage, he answered in a biting (and sluggishly drowsy) tone: "You showed your passport when you got off the plane, and you shoved the brochure in my face near baggage claim. Everyone knew what hotel you were going to. While you were off losing the trail car, we headed to your hotel via a direct route."

Jack raised his eyebrows a little bit.
"Law office? I knew those lawyers would screw over their own mothers, but damn, kidnapping?" he said, half-jokingly. He was glad his instincts were right, but was not pleased to hear that his cab had been shot up for no reason other than showboating- or perhaps they were desperate. If there was a secondary plan, why risk their lives in a shootout on the freeway? He suspected these lawyers had pretty high penalties for failure.
When the elevator dinged on the first floor, Jack shoved his hostage out first. When no bullets flew at him, he and Aya followed. They walked through the lobby, Jack tossing another wink to the receptionist who actually fluttered her eyelashes a little bit, and reached the shot-up cab. He pushed the hostage into the shotgun seat and utilized a recently stolen pair of handcuffs to attach him to the fare reader. "Sit tight and 'no', you can't request to call your lawyers," he quipped.

Aya shoved her luggage into the back and peered around anxiously.
"I'm sorry, does the gun-wielding psychopath have a problem with lawyers?" mused the hostage, as he examined the handcuffs and wondered if it was worth it to try and pick them right then. He could see his own ride not far away, though he wasn't sure how great an idea that was with the chloroform still messing with him. He should have just shut up and tried to go unnoticed but was feeling irked and the fresh air was helping him feel more alert. 'Shut up,' his brain advised too late and he realized too much of his actual personality was on display.

Jack smiled easily and chuckled under his breath. "Funny," he mused. "I'm the psychopath, but I'm helping a girl that's here because she won an internship and wanted to go sightseeing. You're trying to kidnap her. Stop me if I'm wrong, but that just seems ironic."
He sat down in the driver's seat, turned the engine over and starts off down the road. After a little bit, he grinned.
"Hey, waddya call twenty lawyers at the bottom of the sea?" he asked nobody in particular.

The hostage rolled his eyes and kept his head low so the redlight cameras would not immediately identify him.
Sara, however, was always up for playing along. "What?"

Jack smiled wider as he watched the other man and decided not to tell him that no red light in the world could see his car.
"A good start!" he said as he pulled into the parking garage of his apartment and drove to his reserved spot. The owner was a friend, so he knew they were safe. He stepped out of the car, opened Aya's door and helped her with her luggage while watching the hostage out of the corner of his eye. The man turned his head slightly and they met each others' gaze- both looking suspiciously out the corners of their eyes. The hostage looked away first, with a frustrated sigh.
When the luggage and Aya were out of the car, Jack pulled open the front passenger's side door forcefully enough to almost pull his hostage out. Seemed the chloroform was still doing the trick. He unlocked the cuffs and helped the man out of the car, then held out a hand for Aya. Glancing around for any witnesses, and finding none, he quickly made his way to the apartment, practically dragging the hostage along, and shut the door just behind Aya.
There were a few clothes on the couch and floor, and a couple of drink containers, but it wasn't too bad. The furniture was nice and comfy looking and there was plenty of it.
"Make yourselves at home," he offered- mainly to Aya as he shoved hostage into a chair. He left momentarily and returned to hand him a first aid kit and a few towels. "Do the best you can. Holler if you need help," Then, Jack retreated into the bedroom, stripping off his jacket and shirt as he went.
"Y'all grab anything you need or want," he called from the bedroom. The main room had a large TV, some game systems, a very comfortable looking couch and some other nice chairs. The kitchen was separated from the main room by a bar and there was a large refrigerator, microwave, and oven.

"You have lovely home!" Aya called after him, nervously as she found herself looking for a place to set her shoes and slip on a pair of guest slippers. She didn't know what to do with her bag and felt nervous to be in someone's house when she didn't know them very well. She wasn't fully sure what to do with his offer to grab anything she wanted, because all the manners her parents had taught her had not included this situation. She, to be honest, had spent most of her time at school or out around town with friends. She did stay at friends' houses from time-to-time. But that was with girls!
She busied her time by looking at any and every photo she could find in plain view and eventually pushed her bags into a corner and sat on the couch with only the pillowcase. She ignored the hostage who was teaching her an amazing amount of curse words as he bandaged up his foot.
His eyes flickered to her only for a moment before they slid past to the kitchen and the knife block upon the counter.
"J-Jack," Aya called fearfully.

Jack came back into the main room with a bundle of clothes in his hands that he tossed onto a free chair. He could predict where the hostage's mind had gone and thus was not shy about the fact that he still had his gun.
"Dumb," he stated with a nod at the kitchen. "Grab some new clothes if you want. I have an extra few pairs of shoes too, if you'd like them. Yours are getting blood on my floor and the combat gear draws attention."
He turned to Aya. "You too, if you wanna grab a jacket or something, go ahead. And make sure that book isn't going anywhere either," he offered in perfect Japanese.

Aya stared at him calmly for a few seconds, as if completely unaware that he was speaking another language. She nodded politely, then her pupils shrank to pinpoints and she yelled: "Why the hell didn't you tell me you could speak Japanese? Do you know how much time that information could have saved me?! And why are you being casual? That assassin was going to attack us!"

Jack shrugged lightly and smiled. "Because you still need to work on your English, and I hate it when I travel to other places to learn the language and everyone wants to speak to me in my own," he explained. "And I'm sorry he's scaring you but i got things under control." He tossed a duffle bag onto the floor and opened the closet door in the main room. Then pushed the wall in so that one side of it stuck out and pulled that open to reveal a wall that held several nice-looking guns. He took the shotgun, an XM29 OICW assault rifle with grenade attachment, and a specialized suitcase along with a good amount of ammunition.
After packing everything he needed, he replaced the wall, zipped the bag up, and turned to the hostage who was staring at him in awe.
"I'm gonna give you a choice that you understand is generous of me. You can drop your attachments with the organization you're with and help us, or you can go back to them and die. Either way, I won't kill you unless you turn on me. Alternatively, you can try to run from them, but I don't know how far you'll get with your foot like that... So?"

Both the hostage and Aya were staring at him in absolute shock. His from a sense of surprise and fear, and hers from utter bafflement,
"And you're a taxi driver?" she questioned. "I know you said everyone has guns but... wow."
Hostage looked from the bag to the wall, to Jack. He had heard Jack's offer, but his routine was to always pick the winning side. He was beginning to appreciate that Jack was not someone to trifle with, but Raxxam had guns too, and Jack was just one guy. Speaking of which. "Why are you equipped for a war?"

Jack raised an eyebrow.
"What? You want my life story or somethin?" he asked incredulously. When both continued to stare at him he rolled his eyes and plopped down into a chair.
"Okay, first off, I am a taxi driver, but considering the state of that cab right now, that won't last much longer. I'm retired military, army ranger, black-ops... My career took some twists they don't tell you about anywhere. This stuff," he tapped the bag with his foot, "Is leftovers and," he looked at the nice case and smiled, "personal effects."
He looked at Aya for a moment and narrowed his eyes.
"And to set the record, I speak six languages other than English and Japanese, plus two dead languages that I learned for fun."
Then he turned his attention to the hostage he was trying to open a dialog with.
"I also like long walks on the beach, Mel brooks movies and hope for world peace... So, what's your name?" Without giving the man time to think, he added "Your real name."

"I just... never... expected it," said Aya, stubbornly.
The hostage rolled his eyes at the sarcasm and stood up to accept Jacks offer of a new pair of shoes, seeing as 'someone' had ruined his last pair. "Well, Jack ass," he started, returning the sarcasm as he realized how much slower he had to move even with his foot as treated as he could get it. No running, and the guy he was dealing with seemed able to get an easy read on him. "My name is Nikolai Rodnavov."

Jacks lips twitched into a grin a couple of times before he could school his expression.
"Okay Niki, there's an extra pair of boots in the bedroom that should fit you." Before the man made it to the room though, Jack stopped him.
"So... were you Agent Rod?"
