"THAT'S A LOAD O' BULL!"
Frank Caldoa was normally a pretty nice guy. Some might say he was the nicest guy on the block. But when it came to getting the rent in on time, he had very little patience. Hence the reason he was yelling at his boss. Templar of the Moon claimed to have some sort of connection with the actual Knights Templar, but Frank knew it must be a very long, and very, very, lost connection. It was basically a place to find a bounty. Pick the guy up, drop him off, grab another charge, and maybe grab a soda and a snickers on the way out. And like all big businesses, they had their screw ups.
"Frank, calm down, Taltos' report clearly states that you did assist him and you'll get a small percentage of the bouny mon-"
"ASSIST HIM?! I would've had him walking in here of his own free will if that crap for brains idiot Taltos hadn't tossed a grenade in there and come in guns blazing like a Rambo wannabe!" he exclaims. Taltos was the company's best "recovery agent". He knew every trick in the book, and he had an answer for every trick in the book. Frank considered himself on par, if not beyond, Taltos. But the Templars of the Moon didn't really count self evaluation.
Franks boss held up his hands for silence.
"Look Frank, I believe you, I really do. But there's nothing I can do about it. Taltos's word is titanium around here, and ever since you shot that werecat for rubbing against your leg-"
"Oh come on! Not this again! She was a felon! She tried to distract me while the sniper in the other bui-"
"Frank, I know, I was there, but the sniper got away and nothing was ever proved! To all appearances it just looked like you shot an innocent werecat! The point is that nobody trusts you, and Taltos is taking advantage of the fact because there's no way to prove that what he says is a lie and what you say is the truth."
Frank brought his hand up and massaged his temples before sliding it over his face. He let out a heavy sigh and shook his head.
"Fine, how much do I get?"
"Two percent."
"What?! That's two hundred- Son of a-... DAMMIT!"
Franks boss wrote the check and handed it to him. Then he gives him another folder.
"Here, boss isn't willing to give you anymore bigtime marks after this. Sorry Frank," he says. Frank just snatches the money and manilla folder and stalks out of the room. Taltos smirks at him on the way by and bumps into him. Frank grimaces and moves his hand up to make sure his check is still there. Good, two hundred dollars was better than nothing. He looked in the folder he had been given. Some old ladies familiar had kept some of it's intelligence after the lady died and was running amok. He paused as he read the description.
One black goose, 8 pounds, 2.5 feet from beak to tail feathers.[/b]
"This gives a whole new meaning to 'wild goose chase'," he mutters as he heads off. He gets in his car, an old, gray chevy with peeling clearcoat, scratched paint, and dented doors. After cashing his check and paying his rent, he took what was left of his pay check and went to a diner on South Plain St. He had left the keys in his cars in hopes that someone would steal it, but he doubted he'd have much luck. After ordering a burger all the way, fries, and a coke, Frank dug into his food and switched the goose file for the funnies section in the paper. What else could go wrong?

"I'll never get used to these stupid things..."
Shae sighed as she tried-unsuccessfully-to navigate her way through the turnstile down in the subway station...she wished she could just WALK to her destination...but noooooo this stupid Universe and it's STUPID technology had other plans for her, and if she decided to walk...well lets just say it would take a while, so resigned to her fate and this world's stupidity and once she dislodged herself from the turnstile, she went and got on the train heading downtown.
She settled into her seat as the train began to move forward and sighed closing her aquamarine eyes, images from the past bombarding her mind and she opened them up again. she never thought her life would come to this...all she wanted was to serve her princess for the rest of her days...and it seemed she couldn't even do that right...Wrapping her blazer tightly around her chest she shook those thoughts from her mind and reminded herself that she couldn't dwell on the past. Her mission was to get home by any means necessary.
"Next stop, South Plain St and the Intersection of Badger and Fines!"
Shae snapped her head up at the sound of the conductor's voice over the intercom, knowing this was her stop she stood up with the rest of the people getting ready to step off the train and as it came to a stop, she joined the throng of people disembarking the train and ascended the stairs to the street (after fighting with ANOTHER turnstile). She reached the street and began walking toward her apartment, that she only manages to pay rent on because of her security guard job at a high end shop uptown. Which she was sure she was going to get fired from, due to her lack of knowledge about this universe. SHE didn't know that perfume saleswomen were SUPPOSED to spritz you with perfume as you passed their kiosks...she hadn't MEANT to send that lady flying...Then she thought she might stop by Moe's Diner and grab something to eat, so she took a detour...
As she headed to the diner, she noticed that a rather crappy looking car was parked directly in front of the doors, she scoffed at least that person HAD one of those contraptions. Shae was terrified at the thought of riding in one of those things, It took her MONTHS to get over her fear of the subway so she didn't even want to think about 'driving a car'.
Shae didn't even give the front windows a passing glance as she stepped into the diner. At least she had befriended THE Moe of Moe's Diner, so she was always treated well every night she came down for dinner, so Shae didn't even notice that the owner of the crappy car was eating at the front window table, and she didn't even notice that she had never seen him before...

Frank knew Moe. They went back a long way. If you needed information on anything other than how to use that myspace thing, Moe was your man. Heck, Frank had even dated the guys sister before she went all long-tooth, bloodsucker like. Anyway, Frank was just finishing his meal.
Mmm, stale bread, overcooked meat and juicy condiments with a side of burnt fries and a drink that can wash the rust off my car, he thinks. Of course, he'd never tried to get rid of the rust on his car for fear the entire machine would desintigrate. Hard to believe that rust could hold something together like that...
He finished off his burger and fries and stood to get a refill on his drink just after he finished reading the funnies. He saw Cross-Eyed Stan sitting at the far end of the bar and smiled. For a guy that had to look at the paper sideways and moved his lips when he read the funnies, he was one helluva mechanic.
On his way back to ask Moe for a refill, he accidentally bumps into Shae, spilling the ice and what's left of his drink all over himself. To anyone that hadn't seen what had happened, it would look like he just wet himself.
For a moment he just stood still. He could feel the inner rage boiling up, just as it had in his bosses office, just as it tried to do whenever anything happened. He closed his eyes and battled it back down, then opened them and looked at his pants.
"... Figures... You ok lady? Shae, right? I see you in here every once in awhile," he asks while he wipes at the crotch of his pants with a napkin. He gives her a friendly smile and sets the cup on the counter.
"Hey Moe, fill this up for me and give me a heads up when there's a clear shot to the door, I don't wanna bodyslam anyone else this evening," he says lightly.

Shae nearly fell over herself as she rammed into someone just inside the door. She jumped back immediately in defense mode. She saw a flash of something in his eyes, then she realized the guy had split his drink all over the front of his pants, and the next thing she heard was his apology which she tentatively countered with her own:
" I am so sorry, I didn't see you standing there...Mr.....Frank? was it?"
Moe turned around at all the clatter and smiled when he saw it was Shae, taking Frank's cup he said,
"Hey there Shae! your a little early tonight...What can I get you? the usual?"
Shae shot Frank an apologetic look before turning to Moe,
"Yeah, Thanks Moe, can I get it to go tonight please?"
"Sure thing Sweetheart, but you know how I feel about you eating up in that apartment all by yourself..."
Shae sighed...there he goes again...so, choosing to ignore him for the moment (Moe saw it coming and turned away anyway), she turned back to Frank, who chose that moment to ask Moe a favor so she was able to study him, wondering if she had ever seen him in here before...
Not that she ever really paid attention to the PEOPLE around her when she was in here she just ate and generally was alert to any sudden movements or potential threats she saw coming...
Her training as a Royal Guardian could be a pain sometimes...and it got her in more than enough trouble in this universe. She was trained to watch out for any and all threats aimed at her princess and to react to those threats in a way that eliminated them quickly and sufficiently. So needless to say, her eyes picked up things that normal people would miss, the smallest movement...Except in her left eye...on that side things were different, but she compensated and overcame that particular flaw...
Suddenly Moe was moving toward her with Franks drink and her bag of food in his hands...

Frank raises his hand as if to wave away the apology.
"Don't worry about it sweetheart, s'no biggy. Here, lemme get that for you," he says. He reaches both hands over and grabs both the bag of food and his drink. As he stretches his arms out, his jacket lifts up above the waist of his pants. His shirt comes up to, revealing part of his muscled torso, and the butt end of a Frontier 9mm revolver sticking out of a sheath on the back of his belt. Nobody else seems to notice it, or the bulge of the shoulder holster for a pair Taurus Raging Bull 0.46. He smiles at Shae.
"Hey, are you just gonna stand there all night or am I gonna have to eat this by myself?" he asks. For a moment he looks at her, then grins as if slightly amused.
"I know I'm relatively attractive, but damn lady, you're gonna make me blush."
He grins and looks outside. Not noticing any new cars, he turns back to her.
"Hey, you wanna lift or somethin'? It's getting pretty late and the full moon is up tonight, don't want those were's out after you," he says.
Though nobody knew it, Frank was a "werewolf", though he wasn't like the others. He was called Uratha, a sort of ancinet breed of werewolves that changed at will, and were not always born under the full moon. The werecreatures now were considered lesser versions of the creature, just like a cat fish is a lesser version of a shark. Frank, of course, used his ancient gifts to completely hide the fact that he was even supernatural.
Getting back to the topic at hand, he glanced at a man dressed in black in the corner.
"Vamps might be out too," he mutters.

Shae was surprised and a little taken aback by this man's lack of decorum and his boldness. She didn't really know what to say to his flirtatious comments, never taking men seriously in her life...duty came first, always.
When he grabbed her food and his drink, she thought she saw a glint of reflected light as his shirt moved slightly. When he looked outside she reached out and gently took her bag of food out of his hand, And when he offered her a ride home talking about werewolves along with pointing out Vania sitting in his normal corner, her suspicions grew again as did her state of awareness.
If that flash of light at his waist was what she thought it was then maybe this man was more than he seemed. All the normal humans protected themselves from this universe's creatures of the night by rarely going out at night, ESPECIALLY on the night of a full moon, That's why the subways were so crowded every time she came home, they were full of people trying to 'beat the moonlight' as it were. Only the extremely brave or the extremely foolish humans came out at night...
"Thank you for offering but I think I'll be able to make it on my own-"
Shae began politely trying to decline Frank's offer for a lift, but she was cut off by the sudden appearance of Moe...who it seemed, had been listening in the whole time...
"Why I think that would be a great idea Frank!!! I worry about this one living down in Vamp Town by herself,"
Shae turned and glared at Moe, there he went again thinking she was vulnerable against the vampires...She was grateful Moe thought of her as a daughter, and he was the only person in this Universe she could trust, but sometimes he went too far...like now...
"My neighborhood isn't that bad Moe, they leave me alone and I leave them alone, Perfect situation..."
Vamp Town as it was 'affectionately' called was nothing more than a block of apartment buildings on the lower East side of town that just happened to house a majority of Vampires...and ever since Shae told Moe where she lived he had been on her case to get the 'hell out dammit!!'
"Still Shae I'd feel better if you had someone take you home, I would do it myself, but you know the rush is about to start...especially tonight...so please, do it for me...and besides...Frank is a good guy..."
Shae felt a little bit of anger at Moe for this predicament she was in, if she didn't do it Moe would be pissed at her for about a week, and if she did...well Frank was someone she just met dammit! how was she supposed to trust him?

Frank smiled in a friendly manner and shrugged upon seeing Shae's discomfort. "Hey, it's no big deal. Straight there and I'm gone, if I stick around any longer than desired you have my permission to kick my ass, and then call Moe to kick my ass. Ok?" he asks. He grins and takes a sip from his drink. He looks out the window again, still grinning. Suddenly though, he freezes, and his eyes go wide for a moment, before narrowing to angry slits. All in the blink of an eye. Then, just as soon as it happens, he shakes his head and rubs his eyes.
"I must be going crazy," he mutters, then shrugs and smiles again.
"Sorry about that. But hey, you can trust me, I don't bite... well, not like a were or a vamp anyway," he adds as an after thought.
"But don't worry so much. If you want, I'll let you hold me a gunpoint the whole way. It'll make me nervous as hell, but I'm willing to give it a try."
He stops then and narrows his eyes in contemplation. Then he grins.
"And no, I'm not going to try and impress you with my car, though I will admit I think it's the only one that someone hasn't tried to steal," he adds.

Shae sighed, well it wasn't like she couldn't defend herself if something happened, She was a bit curious by his glancing outside, but shook it off as he smiled at her, she chuckled lightly,
"OK, Frank, I guess we better go, no need to stick around this joint, Bye Moe, see ya in the morning."
Moe grinned broadly, and winked at Shae,
"Be careful now, and tell Allie she still owes me money, 'sbout time she got her scrawny ass in here anyway..."
Shae nodded, Allie was her neighbor and one of the few Humans living in her building.
"Alright Moe, I'll tell her if I see her...You ready Frank?"
Shae headed toward the door, watching the shadows outside undulate as the night settled in, she heard the bay of a wolf and smirked, this was going to be an interesting ride home, before she was outside the door she had her hand cautiously sitting on one of her long knives, this one's name, Shawl.
"I just hope Jahn knows to keep to himself tonight..."
She whispered to herself, Jahn was a powerful vamp on her side of town, he controlled all the vamps in that territory, and was known for causing trouble...especially on the night of the full moon, and with the werewolves, Shae prayed that another war wouldn't be started tonight

Frank smiles and leads the way outside. He waves godbye to Moe and slips through the door, holding it for Shae before letting ti swing shut again. Then, he walks to his car. That little action spoke tons about Frank that nobody else could have put into words. He opened the passenger side door for Shae and smiled.
"I know it makes the hobo on the street corner look like a millionaire, but it's all I could manage. I promise it won't blow up or anything though," he says. A carful of were's rode by, whooping and hollering, and a few shadows raced across the street, some caused by the streelights and the moon, others not. Frank sighed. Tonight was going to be a long night. He thought about his stack of folders in the backseat. The goose could wait. Tonight, his target was something a bit more dangerous than a runnaway familiar.
His arm brushed against his shoulder holster as if to make sure it was still there, and he smiles comfortingly.
"Come on, lets get outta here."
Once Shae is in the passenger seat, he hops in the drivers side, pulls the door shut with a loud squeek, and turns the engine over. It gives a strangled sound before running to a relatively normal repetition. Then he pulls off, one tire squeeking in the night. He flips the radio on just loud enough to be able to ignore the squeeks and squeels for now, then heads toward vamp town.

Shae was slightly surprised at Franks courtesy, He gave off an aura that suggested he wasn't the courteous type...but she was more surprised that she was actually going along with this, As she climbed into the car's passenger seat she thought to herself this world was changing her minute by minute, she shook her head at the thought...she didn't need to change...she needed to stay sharp and alert for anything that might lead her home, but sighing to herself she knew that she ALSO needed to pay attention to her current surroundings or she would be in worse shape...it just wouldn't do to die before she saw her princess again...
Sudden music jarred her out of her thoughts and glancing around her turquoise eyes landed on the radio...yet another contraption she saw no use in, and this worlds idea of MUSIC! what was that? it sounded like a bunch of cats going at it, she chuckled with no emotion, then a flash of black across her field of vision caught her eye, she turned her head just in time to see the tail whip around a corner she rolled her eyes and her hand reflexively twitched at her hip stealing a glance over at Frank and sees his calm face and she is surprised to find that it calms her as well,
"You didn't have to do this you know, Moe is always trying to get me to have someone walk me home...I think it might be his life's goal or something, *sigh* needs to mind his own business if you ask me," Shae said with mock hostility, a very small hint of a smile on her lips.
Her turquoise eyes twinkled slightly in amusement. As the car rolled down the street, she stared out of the window out as the town around them began to turn more and more desolate, as the streets became cracked and in general disrepair...just like the rest of their surroundings.
She could feel the eyes on them as the car continued down the street, hers narrowed in response and her hand went to her knife at her hip and the other she placed lightly yet urgently on Franks arm, the words she said came in a urgent whisper, her lips barely moving,
"Be ready...they've surrounded us..."
She mentally cursed, she should have realized it sooner, but yet again...too caught up in her thoughts...grumbling slightly she reached down and pulling her pant-leg up, she grabbed her other knife 'Helfe' and brought it up to her now-loose-of-it's-sheath Shawl, all this done in a blink of an eye,
"Of course I can never just get home PEACEFULLY..." she grumbled as the expected shadows closed in...

Franks eyes lazily scanned to the side once before setting on the road again. He smiled at Shae's comment on Moe's "life mission", but otherwise showed no response. When her hand touched his arm, he slowly reached over to the glove compartment of his car. Pulling out a flare gun, he took one moment to make sure it was loaded before setting it on his lap. Then he pulled out one of his Tuarus' and set that on the other leg.
"Shae, could you do me a favor and roll that window down? Thanks doll."
Once that's done, he finds a straightaway, and right as the shadows begin to converge on them, he extends both arms and fires. The Taurus blasts a hole in one of the creatures so big it practically falls in half while the flare zooms past Shae, arcs up, and explodes in a brilliant light. Frank then slams the gas down zooms on down the road. He pulls out his revolvers and hands them to Shae one at a time.
"You look like a capable woman, do me a favor and shoot those guys if they get to close, ok?"

Shae nodded to Frank when he started to hand her the guns. She quickly re sheathed her knives and took the Taurus' from him, looking down at them quickly, she was reminded of a weapon in her home universe, it fired projectiles as well, but also arrows and such. So once she got used to the feel and weight of the weapons she was once again in Guardian mode.
She shifted her weight and after a brief struggle with the seatbelt she was free and facing the window, her body twisted in the seat, one shadow got a little too close and Shae shot it in the chest her aim dead on. Her turquoise eyes twinkled in the lights of the passing street lights as she fired at those creatures stupid enough to get close to the car.
"If we can get to my apartment we'll be safe there! Even though Jahn rules that territory, the Were's know better than to come near that place!" Shae shouted to Frank over the cacophony of noises going on around her, the whine of the engine, the howls of converging Werewolves, and the Taurus' going off in her practiced hands.
Then Shae noticed a shadow keeping pace with Frank's side of the car,
"Roll your window down!!" She exclaimed as she twisted herself back around were one gun was still pointing out her window and the other was ready to point across Frank to fire out his window, her back was to the windshield, her knees basically in her seat.
Once his window was down Shae thrust her arm out in front of him just in time to fire and take down a large Were coming straight at the window, the round caught it in the face and sent it flying back wards howling until it hit the ground with a splatter, Shae kept this position firing at Weres with the guns and hitting the ones lucky enough to escape her deadly aim in the face with the butt of the gun, knocking them back and off the car.

Frank reaches up with one hand and pulls the sunroof back before taking up the flare gun. He points it at the roof and waits.
When the frenzy took over them, werewolves were not the most calculating species. So it was no suprise at all, that when the sunroof opened, a huge group of them converged. Frank glanced up once, then fired the flaregun, hitting one of the werewolves straight in the chest. The lycan was thrown back with a suprised grunt.
Frank almost felt sorry for him when the flare exploded. Usually, he used that as a weapon against vampires. It wouldn't have much harmful effect against the werewolves except to blind them for a bit, maybe concuss the nearby ones.
Frank pounded the gas pedal into the floor of the car and drove as fast as they could to apartment complex. Once there, he pulls into a parking space and kills the engine. Then he lets his head flop back onto the headrest.
"Y'know, one day, I'm gonna take a vacation to hawaii or something. And the most exciting thing that happens is gonna be the decision of whether I want a martini or a daquiri," he says. He sits for a moment, not moving, just thinking. Then...
"Nah, better not go to hawaii, there'll probably be a shark attack while I'm there and we won't be able to go to the beaches."
He looks at Shae then and smiles. Then he looks at the guns in her hands. Both Taurus' were empty, same with the revolvers. He scribbles something on a piece of paper and hands it to Shae then.
"Well, if you ever need another ride, just gimme a call, ok?" he says. Then he gets out, walks to the passenger side, and opens the door for Shae. He's about to say something else when a strange scent hits his nose. He stops with his mouth halfway open and looks behind him, then his eyes go to the second floor. He looks back at Shae with a more serious expression.
"Be careful tonight, I have a feeling the werewolves aren't gonna be the only ones up for a snack," he says in a low voice.

Shae takes the paper and slides it in her pocket as she gets out of the car, As soon as his words of caution register in her mind she looks up at the building he had been staring at and notices a flicker of movement in one of the windows. Not much, just a flicker of light when the curtians moved but it was enough to set her on her toes...
"Yeah...I dont think this will be just a 'quiet' evening at home..."
Instinctively, her hand slides to her hip and she unbuckles Shawl, but leaves it in the sheath, this action only a precaution, and she wasnt even aware she did it...Narrowing her eyes briefly at the building she turns back to Frank,
"Thank you so much for the ride, but you should head home before those creatures catch our scent, luckily they will stay away from here because of Jahn, but they might get it in their heads to follow you..."
Shae glanced out in the direction they had come from, and sure enough she could see glinting eyes flashing in their direction and she could almost hear the angry growls she was sure were being thrown their way. She sighed, this reminded her of the invasion, the creatures, the soldiers, the betrayal...her own brother...She squeezed her eyes shut at the memories, now was NOT the time to fall into her past, she had to stay alert, had to stay on her toes-
Then she heard it, the blood-curdling scream that made the hair on the back of her neck stand up, followed by the merciless laughter she had heard so many times, Jahn, looked like he was starting his 'playtime' a bit early...the moon wasnt even all the way up in the sky...and already the torturing of humans had begun. She hoped Allie had enough sense to get in her apartment and stay there...if not Moe would KILL Shae if something happened to her...Allie was like his wayward daughter, he cared alot about her...
"That dumbass, one day I hope he gets a dose of Daylight..."
She mumbled as she headed to the doors of the building that would lead to the stairwell. Looking back over her shoulder she smiled a rare smile at Frank and waving lightly said,
"well Frank I guess I'll see you around, gotta go check on Allie...watch your back on the way home..."

Frank nodded his appreciation for the warning.
"I'll see you around then," he said with a smile and a wave. When Shae disappeared inside, he moved to the back of his car and opened the trunk. Inside was his armor. The spirits called him by Dark Seraphim, and he used this to his advantage. He had built up an alias from this deed name and used it to clean up the streets a little bit.
Once he wore his armor, he slipped closer to the building. Using his stealth gifts he became a shadow. No scent, no features, just a black silhouette sliding up the sheer surface. When he reached the window he had spotted earlier, he slipped through the cracks and into the room, then settled himself for a moment in the shadow of a lamp. The light was red in some places because of the splatters of blood on the lamp shade.
In the room stood Jahn himself, along with three or four of his cronies, surrounding the huddled figure of a young woman who was bruised, bleeding, and crying. A quick examination showed him that they hadn't bitten her yet, and he was glad for the much.
"Now let's see, who wants the first bite? I say it's about time Moe learned who was the real boss of this city, what do you think?" Jahn asks his followers. One in particular, a man that took to the gothic nature of the vampire it seemed, stepped foward eagerly. He wiped his bloody knuckles on his pants, then moved foward.
It was a suprised for Jahn when his friend Melkials head rolled across the floor and his body shriveled into a dry heap of bones. What was even more suprising was when he found himself and his followers being lifted into the air and hurled backward. One vampire girl flew out the window and landed with a sickening crunch on the fence, one of the posts sticking out of her chest. She too, shriveled up. Seraphim stood over the girl for a moment and waited for the stunned vampires to regain their senses.
