Name: Melissa "Mel" Higgins
Age: 21
Physical Description: Average build with muscle tone, because she plays volleyball. She's of Swedish/Canadian ancestry with gray-green eyes and chestnut hair that reached her shoulder blades.
Attire: Denim shorts, a turquoise tank-top covered in part by a white denim jacket, and white sports shoes with rainbow accents.
History: Mel was one of those kids who seems to have a hand in everything. She's had ballet, piano, karate, and art lessons, was in the girl scouts, played soccer, volunteered at the zoo, and worked in her dad's auto repair shop. Nothing ever seems to hold her interest. She's practically a Swiss army knife of abandoned hobbies and it doesn't take her very long to learn a new one- which is part of the reason she gets bored. Both her parents had jobs, but at least one of them was always present for big games or recitals. She wasn't on a sport's team in high school because she wasn't sure she wanted to commit 4 years to any particular sport when she might prefer art or music or volunteering. As flaky as she is with hobbies, however, she's the opposite with people and even has a few friends from elementary school. She believes that you should experience as much as possible, but fight for what is important enough to keep. She ended up attending an out-of-state community college because it had the widest array of courses available as well as hundreds of clubs.
Personality: Melissa is very loyal to her friends and family, but jokes that she'll probably never graduate because she can't seem to commit to one graduate program. She's a very active person, even if that's just spending a day reading books or playing a video game. She likes to be busy, but doesn't have patience for drama. She doesn't care that someone told someone else that some other person called somebody a mean name. Her opinion is that if you're busy doing other things you won't have any time to stick your nose where it doesn't belong.
Skills: She's great at improvisation and reacting to changing situations. She doesn't get caught up on blaming anyone for mistakes or sulking about failures.
Job: Full-time community college student.
Weakness: She has a broken leg and fractured wrist.
I see this character as: She's a good balance for when tensions are high, but she's also a liability due to the fact that her mobility is extremely limited. She's also aware of the fact that her injuries could get her killed and this puts her on edge. There is a part of her that is just waiting for people to decide it's too much effort to make sure she survives, or for a situation to come up where her protecting her could mean death for other members of the group.
